Michigan Works! Southwest Youth Honored with JMG Excellence in Youth Leadership Awards
Students from the Michigan Works! Southwest Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) program were recognized for their outstanding leadership and commitment during Youth Solutions’ statewide Career Development Conference (CDC) held April 30 at Saginaw Valley State University.
The annual conference brings together young people from across Michigan to showcase the career readiness and workforce development skills they have gained through the JMG program. Participants competed in a variety of individual and team-based events focused on interviewing, communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and leadership.
Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates (JMG) helps students develop career-connected learning experiences and create actionable plans for postsecondary success.
Representing the Michigan Works! Southwest four-county region, three students were recognized with the 2026 JMG Excellence in Youth Leadership Award, a program-level honor celebrating active JMG participants who demonstrate exceptional commitment to their educational and career goals while serving as positive role models within their programs.

Recipients of the Excellence in Youth Leadership Award embody the core values of JMG through their leadership, determination, and dedication to personal and professional growth. Michigan Works! Southwest and Youth Solutions continue to celebrate the accomplishments of these young leaders and the positive impact they are making in their schools, communities, and future careers.
Ashlyn Bearinger
Ashlyn Bearinger was recognized for her dedication to personal growth, leadership, and commitment to the Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates program. Through her participation in JMG, Ashlyn has demonstrated determination and a strong focus on achieving her educational and career goals while setting a positive example for her peers.
Monica Perkins
Monica Perkins, a student from KRESA Career Connect Downtown Campus, was honored for her outstanding commitment to Jobs for Michigan’s Graduates and her dedication to educational and career success. Youth Solutions recognized Monica as a student leader whose story serves as an inspiration to others within the program.
Prayla Cole
Prayla Cole was recognized for exemplifying leadership, perseverance, and dedication within the Michigan Works! Southwest Kalamazoo County JMG program. Her passion for achieving her goals and encouraging others reflects the core values of JMG and the positive impact young leaders can have within their schools and communities.
