Career Fair for All

Michigan Works! Southwest is partnering with the Edison Early Childhood Education Career Pathway, Urban Alliance, and the Early Childhood Investment Corporation to host the first “Career Fair for All” job fair to be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Urban Alliance in Kalamazoo.

Join Michigan Works! Southwest, the Edison Early Childhood Education Career Pathway and local community agencies for this career fair event taking place at Urban Alliance. Job seekers that attend can also take advantage of wraparound services from the following agencies:

  • Kalamazoo RESA Head Start
  • Youth Opportunities Unlimited (YOU)
  • Southwest Childcare Resources

Job seekers who attend will get the opportunity to connect with over 40 employers located in Kalamazoo with current openings who offer direct hire opportunities. Job seekers can also take advantage of other free services, including job-search assistance and consultation, general youth services information, copy and fax services, information regarding training opportunities, and access to networking with local employers.

As an added bonus, the event will feature a hands-on demonstration area where attendees can explore the occupation of early childhood education and interact with other childcare professionals, to see if a career in early education is an option they might consider.

“Childcare and early childhood education is a career where community members can positively impact the children and families that live within their neighborhood. Through the Edison Early Childhood Education Career Pathway, candidates are connected to employers like YWCA Kalamazoo who pay a living wage, provide full-time employment, and are committed to improving the working conditions for early learning professionals,” said Nichole Blum, Development Manager-Improving the Lives of Children at YWCA Kalamazoo. “Experience in this line of work can lead to business entrepreneurship, program management, community-based social work, and more,” she added.

Job Fair Preparation Events – Free and open to the public!
Individuals interested in getting assistance with interview preparation, updating or creating a resume, or printing off materials can attend a free event at one of the following locations:

  • July 26, 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., MI Works! Southwest, 1601 S. Burdick St.
  • July 27, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Goodwill Industries of Southwestern Michigan, 420 E. Alcott St.
