Each month, the Shining Star Award honors a team member who wholeheartedly embodies the values and mission of Michigan Works! Southwest. Selected through peer nominations, this recognition shines a spotlight on individuals who consistently go above and beyond, creating a meaningful impact for both those they serve and our internal team.

Irene’s dedication to Michigan Works! Southwest’s mission and her exceptional service to participants have earned her this well-deserved honor. In her role as a Career Coach with the Neighborhood Employment HUB Program, Irene is known for meeting individuals where they are and providing personalized support that empowers them to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.

Her resourcefulness and innovative approach have led to meaningful community connections, such as helping establish a partnership with a local transportation provider to ensure job seekers can access reliable, 24/7 transportation. This initiative has removed one of the most significant barriers to employment, allowing more individuals to secure and maintain meaningful work.

While participants know Irene as a trusted advocate, she is also a collaborator, problem-solver, and motivator, uplifting others with encouragement and practical solutions. Her commitment to service makes a lasting impact not only on the individuals she supports but also on her colleagues and the entire Michigan Works! Southwest team.
