Apprenticeship Testimonial: Post Consumer Brands

Post Consumer Brands in Battle Creek, Michigan, continues to invest in the future of its workforce through its Skilled Trades Apprenticeship program. With support from the Michigan Statewide Targeted Apprenticeship Inclusive and Readiness Program (MiSTAIRS), Post received a $9,600 reimbursement that helped provide on-the-job training for Pipefitter Apprentices. This partnership with Michigan Works! Southwest and the State of Michigan has strengthened the company’s ability to develop skilled trades professionals from within its own workforce.

In March 2024, Post’s Battle Creek Skilled Trades Apprenticeship program received approval from the U.S. Department of Labor and now includes training opportunities in several critical trades, including Electrician, Machine Repair, Pipefitter, and Sheet Metal. At a time when many manufacturers face challenges in recruiting experienced skilled trades workers, the apprenticeship program allows Post to “grow its own” talent while building a reliable pipeline of highly trained employees.

The program benefits not only the apprentices themselves but the entire workforce. Experienced trades professionals play a vital role in mentoring the next generation, sharing their expertise and industry knowledge through hands-on training. At the same time, apprentices gain valuable technical skills and career advancement opportunities that help strengthen the overall operation of the facility. This investment in on-the-job training is expected to continue delivering long-term benefits for the Battle Creek plant and its employees.

As Post Consumer Brands approaches the 131 anniversary of its Battle Creek facility in 2026, the company remains proud of its deep Michigan roots. The historic white barn where C.W. Post first mixed a batch of Instant Postum still stands on the property, serving as a symbol of the company’s legacy. While honoring that history, Post continues to look ahead; committed to innovation, workforce development, and its mission of making lives better by making delicious food accessible for all.

Post Consumer Brands expressed gratitude for the support that made this training possible. “We are grateful for the partnership we share with Michigan Works! Southwest and the State of Michigan,” said Tiziano Bonardi, Associate Director of Human Resources for Post Consumer Brands – Battle Creek. “The investment in apprenticeship training is helping us prepare the skilled workforce we need for the future.”
